Fringe Element. “The New Acoustic Kings”

Fringe Element recently played open mic night at the St. Charles Coffee House. Justin Church, an all around great guy (not just another industry fat cat), booked us a show on November 20th at the famed Sci-Fi Lounge in Crestwood Mall. We’ve done it. We’ve hit the big-time.

Do we feel we deserve the nickname “The New Acoustic Kings”? Maybe not. But we’re sure as hell not gonna stop it.

A-traveling We Will Go

A mother from Jersey recently posted about her son’s newfound spot on a traveling baseball team. “These teams travel across the county” [sic] playing various tournaments (which presents them with the rare opportunity to be beaten by their fathers in various places).

This situation is a lot like Fringe Element’s, as they will, soon after their record deal, travel across the universe playing various shows without encore.  Some nights it will be hard. They’ll want to give up. They’ll want to crawl back to their mansions tired and broken down. They might have enough money to do exactly that. You can make it happen. Three will be on sale for download soon. Stay tuned.

Best Songs of 2010

Safe Digression made a post listing the 30 best songs of this year so far. We have to get on the final version of this list.

Look, you’re absolutely right. “Fringe Element is too ahead of its time!” “Fringe Element goes over everyone’s head!” But the thing about this list is that it’s SEMI-INDIE!!!! It’s artists like New Pornographers and The Hold Steady intertwined with groovy dance pop. While none of these things are EXACTLY like Fringe Element, they’ve saved us a nice spot in between where we belong.

This list is the only list that matters. It can make or break any artist. We have 6 months to conquer the end-of-the-year version. Go forth and advertise, Fringe Fans!!!!!!

Three!

We got Three back from 12 Bar yesterday. The recording quality is great, but the mix is still a little rough.  We’re mixing the final version on the 27th, which will hopefully have much more equality between the instruments.

Right now, the vocals are a bit too loud, and the cymbals and snare are really loud. The bass was recorded directly into the computer and hasn’t really been fattened up yet and it’s mixed too low. The guitar got some chorus/flanger effect put on it which killed the loud/quiet contrast it used to have.

But those are all minor issues that don’t affect much in the grand scheme of things. The song is still essentially itself and we’re very happy with the recording. We’ll have the final mix up soon. Until then, here’s the first mix:
